Gilding around 1960
Insertion
Around 1960 the books were placed into special wooden presses for the gilding precedure.
Pressing
There were pressed together as many books as possible.
Sanding
Before gilding the edges had to be sanded
Sanding
To simplify the sanding procedure a hand sanding machine was used.
Corner sanding
The corners must have prepared separately with a special hand sander.
Gilding
After sanding the gold was applicated by hand.
Pressing
The gold must have been pressed by hand to avoid that it peels off the book.
Polish
The foil has been polished to get a glossy look.
Controlling
Before the delivery of the goods a final inspection was done.
